A few Gonzaga women’s notes

Following their 77-60 win over Brigham Young on Saturday to clinch their eighth consecutive West Coast Conference title, the Gonzaga women's basketball team moved up three spots to No. 22 in the Associated Press Top 25 poll on Monday. Also, seniors Katelan Redmon and Shannon Reader were honored.

Redmon was named WCC Player of the Week  for the second time this season after finishing with 28 points and seven rebounds in Gonzaga's win over BYU, while Reader was named to the WCC women’s basketball All-Academic Team. Reader, who has played in 21 games, holds a 3.26 GPA in public relations.

Gonzaga heads to the WCC tournament in Las Vegas as the No. 1 seed and will play Saturday at noon against No. 4 Saint Mary’s College, No. 5 Pepperdine University, No. 8 University of San Francisco, or No. 9 Loyola Marymount University.

Zag women back in Top 25, Bowen named Player of the Week

A week after dropping out of the Associated Press Top 25 poll, the Gonzaga University women’s basketball team returned to the poll at No. 25. The Bulldogs received 75 votes. Also announced on Monday, senior forward Kelly Bowen was named West Coast Conference Player of the Week for the first time in her career at Gonzaga. More below.

Zags drop out of A.P. Top 25

Gonzaga (3-2) dropped out of the A.P. Top 25 poll. The Zags, No. 22 last week, went 1-1 at the CBE Classic, losing to No. 4 Kansas State before defeating Marquette.

GU received 51 points, checking in at No. 28. West Virginia and Louisville are 26th and 27th, respectively. North Carolina is No. 29. GU’s two losses are to K-State, still No. 4, and No. 17 San Diego State. The ESPN/USA Today rankings haven’t been released.

Saint Mary’s received six points. The Gaels lost to future WCC foe Brigham Young, ranked No. 21, in the championship game of a tournament in South Padre Island, Texas.

By the way, GU recruit Kyle Dranginis shattered Skyview’s school record with a 54-point outburst in an overtime loss to Valivue.
