I can’t disagree that the brat got what he deserved, but a better way to handle it would be to go to the manager and demand one’s money back, since the theater couldn’t provide a reasonably tolerable movie-watching experience. If enough customers did that, the managers would start getting serious about putting the kibosh on this sort of behavior.

I agree that programs should be evaluated. However, if the evaluation shows a failing program, the answer is not a knee-jerk scrapping, particular if the same programs work elsewhere.
My older son is looking at colleges right now, and I did some research on entry requirements to universities in the UK. They happily take graduates from US high schools, but do like the IB as it is seen as a better benchmark than just a HS diploma. They do not do this because the UN told them to.
Technology is not the answer, there is enough used in schools already. The problem is cheap teachers.

What’s “wrong” with those people is that they believe they can see past the candidate’s church membership card, skin color, or type of gonads, and make some judgment about whether they might actually do their job the way the voter wants them to do it.

Duroc, granted, there were drawbacks to traveling by bus - but the convenience and availability offset them. I traveled by bus to practically every state, mostly on the ‘Limited’ routes which had fewer stops, more personal space and in later years, provided rest room services on board. It often took a day to recover and work some of the stiffness out but every place in America was available at a reasonable price. Of course you’re absolutely correct in mentioning trains as the gold standard in comfort but not for convenience for much of the country - same as the airlines.

http://www.krem.com/news/local/Spokane-tops-statewide-crime-report-151956795.html
SPOKANE— A new statewide law enforcement report shows Spokane has a higher crime rate than Seattle, Tacoma and Yakima and for a city our size; there are fewer officers on the street than we should.
Using the 2011 crime report put out by The Washington Association of Sheriff’s And Police Chiefs, KREM 2 news compared the crime rate in Spokane to Seattle, Yakima, Tacoma and Moses Lake. Per capita, Spokane tops all of them, with a crime rate of 78.5.
For every one thousand people, 78 and a half would be involved in some sort of crime.
Spokane comes in second to Tacoma with a rate of 6.2 in violent crime. For property crimes, Spokane tops the list.
For every thousand people, 72.3 were victims. Seattle’s rate is much lower at 52.1.
Comparing counties across the state, Spokane comes in first. Spokane County is 55.7, ahead of both pierce and king counties.
Both Spokane and Tacoma have populations of about 200 thousand people. The Spokane Police Department has about 1.3 officers on the street for every one thousand people. Tacoma has almost 1.9 officers for every thousand people.
Spokane employs 275 commissioned officers, where Tacoma has 375.

I get it, I’m hurt. When I got home from cooking last night my right arm was 3 times larger than the left and it took me 45 minutes to shave this morning. But, I also realize that I have overhead now and I can’t just shut things down while I heal. So, my solution is that I won’t necessarily have a full menu for the next few days and I’m going to spend this time solidifying my menu, getting my order system set, securing my supply lines, and training staff. While I do this, I will have limited amounts of the basic menu items and specials sandwiches and dishes that we are perfecting. In addition, as long as I have some advance notice, I can easily cook anything you want by special order. Use my cell phone for now and in a couple days I will have a local number (509-220-2222). I appreciate all the support from my fans and I don’t want to disappoint anyone but sometimes things happen beyond our control and in this case I’m thinking it might even be a good thing. Probably not cash-wise, but certainly quality-wise. I’m hoping within a week or two I can hold my grand opening and provide a steady flow of Bent’s Barbecue with the consistency and quality that you all expect from me. So, seriously call me with your special orders and don’t forget with notice I can even deliver office lunches and special events. Puberty blockers don’t exactly start at age 4. However, kids have failed to get the message repeatedly that they can’t make any major decisions until they’re 18:

The 10 year old kid seemed to have made a pretty major one.
Letting kids express their gender however they want seems like a simple enough measure to take to avoid that. And, honestly, why are you concerned with what the genitals of a 6 year old in a dress look like? All this nattering on about prepubescent childrens’ genitalia from the right has gotten more than a little creepy. “Self-appointed moral guardians here, kids! Some suggestions for people wanting to help Bent out by posting glowing reviews of his new venture on Yelp — do it, since it’s excellent fare, but be cautious — the site has been increasingly aggressive about flagging posts that don’t seem legit to their moderators, which they said they’ve had to do because of more people trying to artificially pump up the ratings of their favorite restaurants.
My brother-in-law has been doing research into this after seeing so many good reviews of the Leavenworth brew pub he works at get flagged but the mixed or bad reviews quickly show up on the site. The site’s moderators told him that they’re more likely to believe that a great review is false but a mixed review is genuine.
So if you want your review of Bent’s to look legit, try this:
* Be an active Yelp member — honestly review other restaurants and establish yourself as an active and legitimate Yelp-er.
* If you’re brand-new to Yelp, consider giving him 4 stars instead, but include positive comments, since people don’t always look at the stars but do read the comments. Or find something meaningless to criticize that doesn’t have to do anything with the product or service. (The napkin holders made me mad.)

Then again I drift to Mr. Romney who refused to sign Grover’s Tax Pledge in 2002 while running for Gov. of Mass. Didn’t believe in signing pledges.. Funny how in 2006,(Dec 31st to be exact) He chose to sign the pledge prior to his attempted run on the 2008 GOP Presidential ticket… Guess that’s what smart Politicians do…

ZoeBrain on Dangerous to let kids choose on May 22 at 10:16 a.m.
An example –
“When she was 12 her mother tried to have her put onto hormone blockers to delay puberty. She didn’t want to develop body hair, a deep voice or have wet dreams. She had already self-harmed when young, trying to slice her penis off with a pair of scissors. However, in what was clearly a borderline decision, the psychologists decided to that she should not be given these drugs. She should be given counselling instead. In despair her mother, a single parent, tried to take her to the United States, but the air fare and the £200 a month cost of these drugs was way beyond her means. Her father had no money either and both sets of grandparents didn’t want to know.
Two years later the talking therapy failed. Juliaantje took a massive overdose and died, having self-harmed, abused alcohol and other substances for more than a year before that.
.. Her happy nature had disappeared when male puberty really hit. “Her voice broke and she started to get facial hair and hair on her chest. She wore make up and turtle-neck jumpers to hide it all, but she simply couldn’t deal with the way her body was developing…”
Did she blame the psychiatrists? No. Psychiatry is never going to be an exact science, there will always be people who don’t fit into their categories. She does however, feel that they could have given her the benefit of the doubt. “The effects of hormone blockers are easy to reverse, you just stop taking them…” There would have been no risk to her daughter if, at any time she decided that she did not want to be a girl she could simply have stopped, and male puberty would have started.
Hormone Blockers are essentially a way for young trans people and children to leave their options open. They open an extended open window of choice, which gives them time to think about their future, a time during which young people can decide whether they wish to remain the sex they were assigned at birth, whether that be male or female, or whether they need gender reassignment surgery after the age of 18. Talking to mothers of transgender children in the UK who have been prescribed hormone blockers, usually at great cost (£200 a month plus the cost of a consultation in and flight to the United States) one thing comes across loudly and clearly; “I would rather have a live daughter than a dead son.” One of them told me. One mother had remortgaged her house to pay the cost of these drugs knowing what her child was like, she realised that this would probably be the only way to keep her alive.
Another mother talked of how her young child had been prescribed a cocktail of a dozen drugs, including Ritalin, because of behaviour problems at home and at school. Yet when her child was recognised as transgender everything changed. As soon as she was treated as a girl, the tantrums, the bedwetting, the crying, the screaming, the hyperactivity, the violence, just stopped, as did the need for any of the drugs. “She became happy and contented almost overnight, just because we treated her like a girl! The psychologist who spotted this probably saved her life.”
Predictably the accusation of “child abuse” has been levelled at those who advocate prescribing hormone blockers to children between the ages of 12 and 15 (they already are prescribed to those over the age of 16) in the UK. This flies in the face of the evidence in both the United States and Holland, where these drugs have been successfully, and harmlessly prescribed for many years.

“The effects of hormone blockers, the Post reassures readers, are fully reversible. Maybe. How much research can there have been on such a new practice?”
New? They’ve been used in cases of precocious puberty for decades. It’s standard practice to prescribe them under those circumstances, sometimes to children as young as 7. These are by no means “new, experimental drugs”, and neither are they controversial in any way. So how much research? Lots.
It’s only their use in treating transsexuality that’s new. Well, new comparatively, only about a decade or so.
Just a little research would have determined that, but never mind.
