Furyk Wins At Oakmont

Compiled From Wire Services

Jim Furyk shot a 2-under-par 69 and rallied from a four-stroke deficit to win the 36-hole Family House Invitational. Furyk, who matched his first-round score, trailed Rocco Mediate going into the second round and fell further behind with a bogey on No. 2 as Mediate birdied the first two holes.

But Mediate ballooned to a 75 and finished two strokes behind Furyk, who won the $170,000 first prize.

Ernie Els, who won the U.S. Open this year and in 1994 at Oakmont, finished six back with a 144 after a closing 75.
