Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich will hold campaign events in Spokane and Coeur d’Alene on Thursday, Republican party officials confirmed.

A rally is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the Bing Theater in downtown Spokane. It’s free, and open to the public, a campaign official said.

He will has a private fundraiser at a Harrison, Idaho, home around 4 p.m., and a town hall meeting at 7:30 p.m. at the Coeur d’Alene Inn.

Gingrich is the third GOP presidential hopeful to make a stop in the Inland Northwest. Rick Santorum spoke in Coeur d’Alene last week and Ron Paul held a rally at the Spokane Convention Center on Friday.

Mitt Romney’s son will visit Spokane Valley this afternoon.

“It’s pretty exciting,” Jonathan Parker, Idaho GOP executive director, said. “It’s one of the primary reasons we went to the caucus system, one, to be relevant and actually have a say in who our nominee would be, but No. 2, to bring presidential candidates to Idaho to discuss issues important to Idahoans and to get them here to court our vote.”

Gingrich, despite being from Georgia, has noteworthy ties to Inland Northwest politics. He engineered the 1994 Republican sweep that — among other things — took leadership of the U.S. House of Representatives away from Spokane when Republican George Nethercutt beat sitting House Speaker Tom Foley, a Democrat. Republicans, after capturing control of the House that year, chose Gingrich to replace Foley.

Washington holds its precinct caucuses and straw poll on March 3. Idaho’s caucuses are March 6.

    This guy is still running?

  • mikeln on February 21 at 12:52 p.m.

So he’s going to a fundraiser? More likely a meeting with the people that are going to give a butt load of money to his super-pac. What a crooked, crooked government we have.

More info please. Where, what time, how much??

  • Loudin on February 21 at 1:04 p.m.

Lock up your daughters, fathers…Newt is coming to town!

BTW: Somebody must have told him this is a Catholic city, and being as he’s been Catholic for about twenty minutes now, he feels the need to grace us w/his presence. Lucky us…

No he is not still running, just still collecting money.

“Must be some kind of Republican-envy syndrome or something.”

Nah, we just like to point and laugh.

  • Loudin on February 21 at 1:24 p.m.

Wheresdabrain bemoans Democrats commenting on GOP candidates and yet, if you look at his posting history, he’s infatuated w/Obama (articles upon which are technically “Dumbocrat articles”).

Kettle meet pot, pot meet kettle. Goes to show that hypocrisy is not limited to only one group of blind partisans; way to be the thing you loathe, Wheredabrain!

Kinda like having the BEST minor league team come to visit.

wheresdabeach…how are you able to change your mind about any issue of the day, or do you just not bother? Do you just figger you know what’s right and any new information would just be a waste of time?

Not sure what label you would put on me, but if it includes tolerant and willing to listen to serious policy discussions from any side, well, Yup, I’m guilty. As a voter and citizen I enjoy and feel a sense of duty to learn what the best and brightest of both the GOP and the Dems have to offer. Currently, the brain trust of one of our major parties is vacant, IMHO. But, I’m open to whomever has practical solutions to vexing problems.

Interesting you find that predilection “cute”. It certainly tells us something about you that you do.

I will refrain from generalizing that all conservatives share your same narrow vision.

LOL…..how many laughed & pointed when Kennedy said we were going to land on the moon? Who had the last laugh?

BTW, I want .99 cents a gallon gas. Time to bring the price down & if Newt’s the guy to do it then I’ll go with him.

  • jane on February 21 at 2:30 p.m.

With such a contested Primary, Washington gets the whole parade of ant-Christ Conservatives to come visit, lucky us. Maybe their money will bring a little stimulus to our state. In their own ironic way, these candidates are stimulating the economy in the exact way that most economists want to. Large amounts of money/campaign donations from the wealthiest who have no use for it, spend it in middle class America on TV ads, print ads, dropping itno smaller cities with their entourages, staying in hotels, eating in their restaurants. If I was not so educated to know better, I might even call it trickle down working?

  • Dazzeetrader11 on February 21 at 3:00 p.m.

Mike…once again.. THINK before you post. Newt isn’t IN the government. He’s been gone since 99. ANd while I’m at it….neither is Bush.

Hawken should be back,. I hope so anyway. He crush all liberal arguments. Good guy/gal,,,we need his side of the discourse.
    SILENCIO!!!!! …<—never a good idea.

Since Newt will never come close to the nomination, why do some of you care so much about what he says and where he goes?

  • Albert on February 21 at 4:03 p.m.

    Big yawn….Newt who?

  • Loudin on February 21 at 4:18 p.m.

    @Wheresdabrain:

“You’ll see I don’t resort to changing your name in an immature, childish manner.”

    Earlier post by Wheresdabrain:

    “Dumbocrats.”

Looks pretty immature & childish to simply label people “Dumbocrats” because you have a partisan disorder.

Now this is where you motorboat for a bit (“Buh, buh, buh, buh, buh, buh…that’s different!”) and play the victim card. Been done here by many of your type (whiny, anti-gub’ment, childish “us vs. them” view of politics) before, so please try to improve upon the low standards set by your predecessors.

Newt has made his money scamming the government and the taxpayers. The government gives him a pass while the taxpayers take thier medication and forget what happend yesterday. Again I say, what a crooked, crooked government we have.

  • RedCedar on February 21 at 5:03 p.m.

Well, they’ve got to have Newt, so they have an alternative to Santorum. And of course they’ve got to have Santorum so they have an alternative to Romney. And they’ve got to have Romney so we have an alternative to Obama. And we’ve got to have Obama because…

  • jimc on February 21 at 5:38 p.m.

    DB1640:
The latest update says the rally is free, at 2 p.m., at the Bing. We’ve been posting information as it comes in from campaign and party officials in two different states.
They didn’t nail down some details until this afternoon.

    Yes, now I get it.

Enjoy it while you can. Newt looks like he has a hard time walking on level ground. His speech is starting to sound a little slurred like maybe he’s had a couple minor strokes.

  • misjustice on February 21 at 9:15 p.m.

I’d vote for Newt Getrich; President of the Moon!

. Jane…I think you’re think of Obama. Our conservative R’s are all good Christians.

  • jane on February 21 at 10:58 p.m.

Yes dazed. Christian if you prefer the term, but in todays world for politics (if you r paying attention) the word has become synonymous with anti-Christ. What moron would think that if Jesus were to b on earth today, he would side with those that preach hate, prejudice, encourage wars, objecting to healthcare for all, and stand firmly behind a platform to try to find ways to get more from the poor and less fortunate to subsidize more to the rich? Be real. Grab a clue. Buy a vowel. Yes, call them Christian conservatives if you will, or call them anti Christ conservatives, but do not try to distinguish between the two.

  • jane on February 21 at 11:04 p.m.

Ooops dazed, my apology if I was mistaken. When I re-read your post and u said “our conservative D’s are all good Christians”, I should have recognized that as satire……guess soccermomSusie has some competition.

    Please don’t feed the troll.

  • nslopeofw on February 22 at 2:05 a.m.

I wonder if he’ll be able to explain this better than the libs here have for the last 2 weeks. From the latest Gallup poll:

    http://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/211817-gallup-survey-shows-sharp-deterioration-in-job-market-in-feburary?utm_campaign=briefingroom&utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitterfeed

After all, we have been told that we are massively recovering, and ole Barack has saved the economy. Now that we see the truth, will B.O. stop taking credit and go back to blaming GW again? I bet Newt will be a lot more truthful than ole Barry has been.

  • johnclarke on February 22 at 4:45 p.m.

slope, is it the government’s responsibility to create jobs? What, the tax cuts aren’t working?

  • idahosnative on February 23 at 1:28 a.m.

newt…..you are “MY IDAHO AMERICAN” idle.

you remind me of the late un-great congresswoman helen chenewith; ok having an affair with a MARRIED MAN-because SHE wasn’t married….talk about “twisted-____s”.

hummmm……..911 happened because of homo’s……if that’s true, TEXASS is burning because of?

wasn’t it the CHURCH that MURDERED christ?

    hummmmm………hummmmmm…….hummmmmmm.

    my late mom said:

“IF YOU CAN NOT SAY ANYTHING GOOD ABOUT SOMEBODY….KEEP YOU OPINIONS TO YOUR SELF”!

i guess that does not apply to REPUBLICANS.
